What Are Carbonless Forms?
Carbonless forms, also known as NCR forms (No Carbon Required), are multi-part business forms designed to transfer handwritten or machine-printed information from the top sheet to the copies underneath without using traditional carbon paper. Special coatings containing microscopic capsules transfer the image when pressure is applied to the top sheet.
Carbonless forms are commonly used for invoices, estimates, receipts, work orders, service forms, contracts, inspection forms, medical forms and other business documents that require multiple copies of the same information.
Pre-Collated Carbonless Forms
Our standard carbonless forms are available in 2-part (white/yellow), 3-part (white/yellow/pink), and 4-part (white/yellow/pink/gold) configurations. These paper sequences are known as pre-collated carbonless forms, meaning the individual sheets are manufactured and packaged in the correct sequence and printed together as a complete set.
With pre-collated carbonless forms, there is no need to print the individual parts separately and then machine- or hand-collate the different colored copies. This can provide a more efficient and economical alternative to non-pre-collated carbonless forms.
Carbonless forms can also be produced in custom sequences of up to 4 parts when a different combination or order of colored copies is required.
Most standard carbonless forms are edge glued after printing, allowing the individual copies to be separated after the form has been completed. Some custom carbonless forms are produced as snap-out forms, such as receipt books and invoices, which can include perforated stubs that allow individual parts to be separated while keeping the remaining copies together.
How Does Carbonless Paper Transfer Writing?
Carbonless paper uses specially coated surfaces containing microscopic microcapsules. When pressure is applied to the top sheet with a pen, pencil or mechanical printing device such as a dot-matrix printer, the microcapsules release the image-forming chemicals that react with the coating on the sheet below. This produces a visible reproduction of the original writing or printed image on the subsequent copy.
Sufficient writing pressure is important for obtaining a clear image transfer. Because the pressure must pass through multiple layers of carbonless paper, 4-part carbonless forms generally require more writing pressure than 2-part forms to produce a strong image on all copies.
How long does it take to produce a carbonless form order?

Most 2-part, 3-part and 4-part carbonless form orders are produced within 24–48 business hours from proof approval. Additional time may be required for large orders, additional services or during busy production schedules.
